Xiaomi Group’s global VP Manu Kumar quits

31 Jan 2023 , 11:00 AM

Manu Kumar Jain, former head of Xiaomi India, has parted ways with the company after a nine-year stint. Jain made his departure known through a social media post and stated that he will be taking a break before embarking on a new challenge in the Indian startup world.

Jain appeared briefly on stage at the company's recent launch event in New Delhi, after a long absence when he relocated to Dubai in July 2021 to take on a global role as Vice President of Xiaomi International, overseeing strategies and growth.

Jain was a pioneer employee at Xiaomi India and joined the company after co-founding Jabong. In his farewell post, he reflected on the early days of Xiaomi India and how the team overcame challenges to establish a well-loved brand in the country.

'We started as a one-person startup, working from a small office, with limited resources and no industry experience,' wrote Jain. But the exceptional and great team has been a tremendous support.

With Tata Group's investment, Xiaomi has been the top smartphone brand in India since 2017. According to Jain, the company has also been a catalyst for Make in India, with 100% of its smartphones and televisions manufactured in India.
