The Indian Rupee opened flat against the US dollar on Monday, amidst increasing crude oil prices and sustained foreign capital outflows.
The rupee opened at 82.79 against the US dollar on the interbank foreign exchange and later traded at 82.83, a decline of 1 paisa from the previous close.
The rupee fell 3 paise to close at 82.82 against the US dollar in the previous session on Friday.
The dollar index, which measures the strength of the US currency against a basket of six currencies, was 0.11 percent lower at 104.31.
At around 11.24 AM, the Indian benchmark index BSE Sensex was trading at 60,386.53 points, up by 541.24 points. While NSE Nifty gained 169.20 points at 17,976.
Brent crude futures rose 0.05% to USD 84.50 per barrel.
On the global front, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was under pressure by 0.44%. Japan’s Nikkei was trading 0.59% higher, while China’s Shanghai SE Composite Index was up by 0.64%.
