India's 5G network surpasses 2 lakh mobile sites

25 May 2023 , 03:12 PM

With the commissioning of the latest site in Gangotri on Wednesday, India's 5G network surpassed 2 lakh mobile sites. Union Minister for Communications and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami jointly inaugurated the Gangotri 5G site.

According to the Prime Minister, India will join the world in 5G and take the lead in 6G.

'Today, one 5G site is activated almost every minute. The entire world is taken aback. It gives us great pride that 2 lakh sites have been installed in Chardham,' Vaishnaw commented.

The first 1 lakh 5G sites were deployed within 5 months of service launch.

'Today, Chardham devotees have been gifted in the form of a 5G site. Our border area will now have mobile connectivity as well. The dream that we saw of high-speed connectivity in Uttarakhand's hilly area has been achieved today,' Dhami said.

He stated that the launch of high-speed service will aid in relief and disaster management, surveillance, and economic growth.

The ministers also dedicated to the nation the optical fibre connectivity of Chardham in Uttarakhand.
