JSW Steel USA collaborates with TrueNorth Collective for custom EPD generator

JSW Steel USA, a subsidiary of JSW Steel, is implementing the game-changing Smart EPD Platform to monitor, publish, and digitally lead the strategic direction in decarbonization.

JSW Steel USA is the first steel company in the US to use Smart EPD to publish Environmental Product Declarations, or EPDs. 

EPDs are internationally recognised, third-party verified documents that provide clear and transparent information about the environmental impact of a product throughout its value or supply chain.

TrueNorth Collective, a consultancy founded with the vision of accelerating sustainability as serious business, has collaborated with JSW Steel USA. TrueNorth created a custom EPD generator based on JSW USA operations that calculates the environmental impacts of its slab, plate, hot rolled and coil, and pipe steel product portfolio.

EPDs are increasingly being used by state and federal Buy Clean policies to disclose the embodied carbon of products. This initiative will strengthen JSW Steel USA’s competitive position, particularly in markets that value low-carbon steel procurement.

TrueNorth Collective used SimaPro, developed by PRé Sustainability, to calculate product specific results, which were then verified and integrated within the Smart EPD platform to publish EPDs for JSW Steel USA. JSW Steel USA can now generate and distribute verified digital EPDs on-demand.
