Indian equity markets saw a day of strength today. Nifty 50 closed, up by 82.65 points. Sensex closed, up by 242.27 points. Top Gainers today were ONGC, Tech Mahindra and HDFC Life. Top Losers today were Hero Motors, Sun Pharma and Ultratech Cement. ONGC’s stock was the top gainer today after government reduced windfall tax on crude oil to Rs 4,100 per tonne from Rs 6,400 per tonne.
All the broader market indices ended the day in green today. Good buying demand was seen in some mid-cap stocks. Buying demand was seen in many IT stocks, Metal stocks, and Oil & Gas stocks. Decline in oil prices is beneficial for oil marketing companies. Selling pressure was seen in a few FMCG and Realty stocks.
IRFC, Yes Bank, and IDFC First were the most traded stocks, today at NSE, in terms of volume. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and HDFC were the most traded stock in terms of value. 80 stocks touched new 52-week high today at NSE. 19 stocks touched new 52-week low. Market breadth was positive.
