Renault Nissan Automotive moves closer to its goal of becoming carbon neutral

5 Jun 2023 , 10:35 AM

The car manufacturer Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd was making progress towards its February 2018 objective of becoming carbon neutral. The company's Chennai plant has already started a program to switch out single-use plastic goods for more environmentally friendly ones.

In a statement released on Sunday, Renault Nissan Automotive Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) stated that it was on track to meet its 2045 carbon neutrality target and that it will reach many significant milestones by 2030.

The roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality includes three areas: increasing the share of green energy, aggressively improving energy usage efficiencies, and ongoing adoption of energy-efficient technology at its Oragadam plant, according to a statement released in conjunction with the annual World Environment Day on June 5.

By FY 2022–2023, the company's plan will have already enabled the automaker to reduce annual CO2 emissions by an amount equal to 87,500 tonnes. 'At RNAIPL, we take environmental responsibility very seriously and it permeates everything we do. Our drive to use more green energy and optimize energy consumption is motivated by our ambitious vision to become carbon neutral by 2045, according to firm managing director Keerthi Prakash who talked to ET.

By installing additional rooftop solar panels and floating solar panels on the plant's pond, the factory would increase the capacity of its internal solar plant from 2.2 MW to 14 MW by 2026. By utilizing renewable energy resources, RNAIPL aims to meet 85% of the plant's energy requirements with renewable power by 2030 and make the switch to 100% renewable energy by 2045.
