Jindal India Renewable Energy (JIRE), part of the BC Jindal Group, announced its entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market on September 18, 2024.
JIRE plans to establish a 1 GWh battery pack assembly line using LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry by 2025. The company aims to become a full-service provider in Energy Storage Systems by 2027 with a 5 GWh capacity.
This move aligns with JIRE’s goal of generating 5 GW of power from solar, wind, hybrid, and FDRE sources. Additionally, JIRE will manufacture PV Cells and Modules to capitalize on growing demand in the solar sector.
As of March 2024, India’s cumulative Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity reached 219.1 MWh, with 120 MWh installed in Q1 2024.
Various government agencies have issued tenders for 57 GW and auctioned 11.5 GW of energy storage projects, some integrated with renewable energy. Punit Gupta, Director of JIRE, stated that the company’s investment in BESS will support grid stability and enhance renewable energy integration, contributing to India’s growing energy storage market.
