Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, led by Anil Ambani, plans to establish India’s largest integrated facility for manufacturing explosives, ammunition, and small arms in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra.
The project, developed by subsidiary Reliance Defence Ltd, will cover 1,000 acres in the Watad Industrial Area under the Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City (DADC).
This greenfield initiative represents the largest private sector defence project in India, with an estimated investment of ₹10,000 crore over the next decade.
The DADC project is expected to involve partnerships with up to six leading global defence companies, focusing on a wide range of ammunition, including small and large calibres and terminally guided munitions (TGM). The small arms division aims to target both civil and military export markets, contributing to India’s defence exports.
Reliance Infrastructure has established successful defence joint ventures, including Dassault Reliance Aerospace Ltd (DRAL) and Thales Reliance Defence Systems (TRDS), which export 100% of their production.
Its subsidiaries, Jai Armaments Ltd and Reliance Defence Ltd, hold government licenses for arms and ammunition manufacturing, strengthening its position in the sector.
Reliance has already exported defence equipment valued at over ₹1,000 crore, aiming to enhance its presence in India’s defence manufacturing landscape.
