According to news reports, Adani Power, the largest private thermal power producer in India, is to invest up to ₹18,000 crore to more than triple the capacity of its Kawai power plant in Rajasthan.
The plant now has a capacity of 1,320 MW, but over the next few years, it will be extended to 4,520 MW in two phases of 1,600 MW each. Kawai is in the Baran district of Rajasthan, in the Atru Tehsil. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. has already received an order worth ₹10,000 crore from the corporation to carry out the development plan.
The corporation is growing its current plants around the nation, opening new ones, and searching for acquisitions at the same time as this relocation.
An official with knowledge of the development stated to ET, “As part of its strategy to double thermal power to about 31 GW, it is planning to expand its thermal power capacity through organic as well as inorganic route.” At the moment, Adani Power can produce 15 GW.
In an analyst presentation on Tuesday, the business stated that it had secured significant domestic fuel tie-ups under long- and medium-term contracts to support its expansion objectives.
