Oil India Ltd. (OIL) said on Tuesday, November 19, that it has inked a collaboration agreement with TotalEnergies to detect and monitor methane emissions.
The two businesses will work together to use TotalEnergies’ AUSEA technology at Indian oilfields. The AUSEA gas analyser is fitted on a drone and consists of a dual sensor capable of detecting methane and carbon dioxide emissions as well as identifying the source.
Oil India stated it had signed the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), a worldwide industry effort introduced at COP28 and co-chaired by TotalEnergies CEO.
TotalEnergies has made its technology accessible to other signatories as a tool for detecting, measuring, and ultimately reducing methane emissions on their own properties, according to a stock exchange filing.
The OGDC aims to achieve net zero operations by 2050, as well as near-zero upstream methane emissions and zero regular flaring by 2030. The business also stated that OGDC members are committed to assessing and publicly reporting success.
AUSEA currently conducts campaigns on all continents and contributes to the OGDC signatories’ goal of achieving near-zero upstream methane emissions by 2030, according to Patrick Pouyanné, chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.
At around closing, Oil India was trading 3.19% higher at ₹487.50, against the previous close of ₹472.45 on NSE.
