Reliance Industries has entered into a technology licensing agreement with Oslo-based Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS to produce electrolysers, the company said in a regulatory filing.
The agreement provides RIL with an exclusive license for Nel’s alkaline electrolysers in India and also allows RIL to manufacture Nel’s alkaline electrolysers for captive purposes globally, RIL stated, adding that the agreement gives it access to Nel’s proven technology platform for electrolyser manufacturing.
RIL is developing a multi-GW fully integrated end-to-end new energy value chain, from photons to green chemicals, to enable everyone to have abundant and affordable access to sustainable energy, according to the business.
Håkon Volldal, President and CEO, Nel ASA, stated, “In addition to aiding Reliance in attaining their global objectives, Nel will through this arrangement obtain an income stream from a rapidly increasing market Nel could not have accessed on its own.”
To strengthen the competitiveness of the alkaline technology platform, both parties will work together on future performance improvements and cost optimisation via research and development (R&D), value engineering, standardisation, and modularization.
According to the agreement, Nel may purchase equipment from Reliance for its projects. Nel will continue to serve the Indian market using technological systems not covered by the agreement.
Nel Hydrogen Electrolyzer AS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nel ASA. Nel was founded in 1927 and is now a global leader in pure play hydrogen technology. The company specialises in electrolyser technology for producing sustainable hydrogen, as well as hydrogen fueling equipment for road cars.
