India used 124.5 billion units of power in November, up around 4% from 119.65 billion units the previous year.
The month, which is the start of winter, saw a peak electricity consumption of 207 GW, up from 204.6 GW the previous year.
As a result of shifting demand patterns, this year’s November peak demand occurred near the end of the month rather than at the start like it did previous year. In November, when power generation companies also begin to build coal reserves, demand declines after the summer months.
On November 29, there were 39.8 million tonnes of coal in power plant stockpiles, with 3.4 million tonnes at facilities that used imported coal. During the winter, the government anticipates a rise in power plant stocks. By the end of March, domestic coal-based power plants are expected to have at least 50 million tonnes of coal in store.
Production of coal reached 90.62 million tonnes, up 7.2% from 84.52 million tonnes in the same month the previous year.
