Dr. Arvind Singhatiya, Founder, Legalkart

How did you come up with the idea?

In my 12 years of professional experience with various corporations, I experienced serious challenges due to unavailability of legal professionals in different parts of the country and sometimes at international destinations too. That feeling when you can see that the problem is obvious but there is no solution available inspired me to explore possible solutions. I was able to visualize the challenge as a third person and identified the key bottlenecks with the help of my founding partner and LegalKart CTO Partha Sen by using appropriate technology solutions. The only objective we had in our minds was to create access to a reliable legal professional on-demand and this led to the concept of LegalKart.

How does your platform work?

LegalKart is not a legal service provider nor it solicits any kind of legal services but it is a technology platform that facilitates legal service providers through its technology to manage their legal practice.

LegalKart uses Artificial Intelligence to connect qualified clients to the lawyers helping them to build and grow their practice. A first of its kind in India wherein a lawyer can manage its cases, clients, team and finances at one place; majority lawyers on LegalKart are using its unique features like voice notes, live case updates, lawyers collaborative network, client connect and one-click financial management. Lawyers on LegalKart are providing all kind of legal support and services to their clients including case support, legal advice, documentation etc.

What were the challenges and how did you overcome them?

In India, legal technology penetration is much lower as compared to developed economies like US & Europe and when an individual or a business needs legal help, there are basic challenges like access and identifying an appropriate lawyer for them. Similarly, for lawyers, it is difficult to connect with new clients and manage their legal practice efficiently. LegalKart is solving the problem of access for individuals and business by creating a connect with lawyers using LegalKart Practice Management App. We have seen positive traction in this ecosystem and are now scaling the solution to reach the masses.

How did you build the core team (co-founders and initial employees)?

The core team is the heart & soul of a company and I feel immensely fortunate to have Partha Sen as CTO & Founding Partner and Deepak Prajapati as Chief Strategy. Partha comes with 22 Years of technology development experience and he is a passionate perfectionist for the technology he builds. With global tech experience, Partha leads technology at LegalKart. Deepak is an IIT Bombay topper and serial entrepreneur leading business strategy at LegalKart. Recently Malay Mandal joined LegalKart as chief of growth who is an FMS Delhi graduate & has more than 19 years of experience in leading growth and marketing function.

What has been your business growth till now?

LegalKart’s platform is gaining strong traction due to its innovative tech-enabled, affordable and neutral legal advice which is available 24X7. With a strong 25% MoM growth we are hopeful to double our customer base every quarter. Based on the customer requirements we create product offerings like instant legal advice; document review, property due diligence, and start-up compliances. We have served more than 1.5 lakh customers through advisory and documentation.

Please let us know about recent developments in the company.

Recently, we launched the convenient video calling feature for users, wherein users can call through internet call. We also launched property products wherein users can get their property due-diligence done from anywhere in the world. LegalKart also launched easy payments to lawyers; making it a transparent and convenient way to pay one’s legal fee.

LegalKart has collaborated with BASIC Home Loan, a Gurugram-based fintech start-up revolutionizing home loan lending in India, to assist buyers in their property buying journey and provide expert legal assistance service to its customers.

What is the one thing that sets you apart from your competitors?

LegalKart is India’s first on-demand and 24X7 legal consultation over phone. We realized that since most of the consumers do not have previous experience of talking to a lawyer and they also do not have access to a lawyer for an instant consultation on their matter. At LegalKart the objective is to create access to a lawyer and legal services for every citizen. Legally aware and enlightened citizens are the creators of a mature society. At LegalKart our endeavor is to build technologies to reach a billion populations and enable them to access and avail legal supportand services at lower and affordable cost.

Also, we have received feedback that with the help of independent legal advice through our platform and proper documentation, more than 45% users were able to cut-short their litigation or avoid it completely. We have built a technology backbone powered with LegalKart’s proprietary software to connect calls of individuals with most appropriate lawyers available. Call is routed with smart match technology which will use customer’s geographical location, concern area for consultation and other key aspects. The call is confidential and secure and customers can talk to a lawyer in 8 different Indian languages.

With more than 2 Lakh consultation minutes sold in the last 8 months, we are witnessing promising growth and high repeat rate of callers.
This consultation is affordable, neutral and accessible 24X7 by users. We are currently getting 30% of our calls from NRIs living all over the world who need instant consultation about their legal queries concerning them or their families in India. LegalKart aspires to be the world’s biggest legal care company. Our vision and approach are the edge that we have and of course the technology that we are building for billion citizens of this country.  At this point of time we are a growing company and competing with ourselves. We are striving to be a better organization tomorrow than what we were yesterday.
