Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to work together on the advancement, production, and implementation of Type-IV cylinders capable of storing both CNG and hydrogen.
Moreover, the two firms will collaborate on integrating hydrogen into city gas distribution (CGD) and developing power backup systems based on fuel cells.
The agreement was signed by IGL V-P Sanjeev Kumar Bhatia and BHEL GM marketing S. Prabhakar in the presence of Pawan Kumar, IGL Director (Commercial), and Nalin Singhal (BHEL Chairman).
IGL stated that the agreement on Type-IV cylinders will open new roads for collaboration in the hydrogen value chain under the national hydrogen mission.
The stated Type-IV cylinders are designed to withstand higher pressure and are made of lightweight material. Due to this, they offer a longer range to vehicles as they can carry more gaseous fuels such as LNG, CNG, or hydrogen in future.
