A Rs500 crore Electronics Manufacturing Cluster will be built in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra, according to a Monday announcement by Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) is expected to draw over Rs2,000 crore in investment and might eventually create thousands of jobs.
“We have approved a project for an electronics manufacturing cluster in Ranjangaon, Pune, to turn Maharashtra into an electronics hub. The government will invest approximately Rs500 crore “Chandrasekhar, the minister of state for electronics and information technology, said during a briefing.
With this, Ranjangaon (Maharashtra) joins a growing list of places making an aggressive push to become a thriving electronics hub, including Tamil Nadu, Noida, and Karnataka.
A background note states that the total cost for developing the EMC is Rs492.85 crore, of which Rs207.98 crore will be provided by the Indian government and the remaining Rs284.87 crore by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), the State Industrial Agency of the Government of Maharashtra.
Additionally, a roadshow on semiconductor design schemes will be held soon in Pune.
“A roadshow for start-ups will be held in Pune by the Pune-based CDAC soon in Maharashtra as part of the India Semiconductor Mission and the Rs1,000 crore Future Design Scheme. Start-ups in semiconductor design would receive direct investments from the Indian government, “said the Minister.
