On October 3, Indian equity markets ended on a weak note, with widespread selling across sectors. The Sensex fell 1,769.19 points, or 2.10%, to settle at 82,497.10, while the Nifty 50 index closed at 25,250.10, down 546.80 points, or 2.12%.
Around 1,077 stocks advanced, 2,740 declined, and 86 remained unchanged.
In the Nifty 50, BPCL, L&T, Tata Motors, Shriram Finance, and Axis Bank were the largest losers. Conversely, JSW Steel and ONGC turned out to be the main winners.
Every sectoral index finished worse than when it started, with the real estate sector falling 4.5%. Losses in other industries, including as finance, media, oil and gas, vehicles, and capital goods, ranged from 2 to 3%. In addition, the BSE Smallcap and Midcap indices both had 2% declines.
