On October 3, Indian equity markets ended on a weak note, with broad-based selling across sectors. The Nifty 50 index closed at 25,250.10, down by 546.80 points or 2.12%, while the Sensex dropped 1,769.19 points or 2.10%, ending at 82,497.10.
Market breadth reflected the bearish sentiment, as 1,077 stocks advanced, 2,740 declined, and 86 remained unchanged. The biggest losers in the Nifty 50 included BPCL, L&T, Tata Motors, Shriram Finance, and Axis Bank. On the other hand, JSW Steel and ONGC emerged as the key gainers.
All sectoral indices ended in the red, with significant declines led by the realty sector down by 4.5%. Other sectors like auto, banking, media, capital goods, and oil & gas saw losses between 2-3%. Additionally, both BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down by 2% each, reflecting the broad market pressure across stock categories.
