Indices inch up for third day; Nifty settles at around 22,350

Indian equity indices extended their upward trajectory for the third consecutive session on April 23, with the Nifty hovering around the 22,350 mark.

At the close, the Sensex recorded a gain of 89.83 points or 0.12%, reaching 73,738.45, while the Nifty rose by 31.60 points or 0.14%, touching 22,368. The market witnessed 2,224 shares advancing, 1,450 shares declining, and 109 shares remaining unchanged.

Major gainers on the Nifty included Grasim Industries, Bharti Airtel, Nestle India, Maruti Suzuki, and HCL Technologies. Conversely, the losers comprised Sun Pharma, BPCL, Reliance Industries, M&M, and Hindalco Industries.

In terms of sectors, healthcare, metal, oil & gas, and energy experienced declines ranging from 0.3% to 0.8%, while FMCG, power, IT, realty, and auto sectors witnessed gains ranging from 0.4% to 2%.

The BSE midcap index registered a rise of 0.5%, while the smallcap index saw a gain of 1%.
