On Friday, IndiGo revealed its plans to introduce codeshare flights to the United States by collaborating with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. This announcement is a significant step for IndiGo in expanding its global network and enhancing international travel options for its passengers.
As stated in a release on Friday, IndiGo announced that starting from June 15, the codeshare partnership with Turkish Airlines will offer connecting flights to New York, Boston, Chicago, and Washington. This collaboration allows IndiGo to provide convenient travel options to these prominent cities in the United States.
Currently, IndiGo offers codeshare connections to a total of 33 destinations.
Codesharing enables an airline to facilitate bookings for its passengers on partner airlines, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted travel to destinations where the airline itself does not operate flights.
IndiGo’s recent expansion of overseas connectivity coincides with the revival and expansion efforts of Air India, which is owned by the Tata Group. This expansion by IndiGo, which boasts a fleet of over 300 aircraft, takes place amidst Air India’s initiatives to enhance its fleet and extend its route network.
Following this development, IndiGo was trading 2.70% lower at Rs 2,396.35 per piece, against the previous close of Rs 2,462.75 on NSE. The counter almost rose near to its 52-week high of Rs 2,488, at Rs 2,485 in today’s trade.
