Indian benchmark indices saw gains on Friday. The Sensex rose by 190 points or 0.26% to 72,6793, while the Nifty climbed 38.85 points or 0.18% to 22,0350. Market activity showed 1432 shares advancing, 1744 shares declining, and 99 shares remaining unchanged.
However, the broader market trended negatively, with the BSE MidCap index down 0.93% and the BSE SmallCap index down 0.51%.
Among the Nifty 50 stocks, 14 were in the green, led by Grasim Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, ONGC, Apollo Hospital Enterprises, and ITC. Conversely, Bajaj Auto, Axis Bank, Tata Motors, HDFC Life, and Larsen & Toubro experienced declines.
On the Sensex, 11 of the 30 stocks recorded gains, with Mahindra & Mahindra, ITC, Maruti Suzuki India, HDFC Bank, and Bharti Airtel leading. Meanwhile, Axis Bank, Tata Motors, HCLTech, Larsen & Toubro, and NTPC were the main contributors to losses.
Data from the NSE revealed that Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹4,260.33 Crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought ₹2,285.52 Crore worth of stocks on April 18.
