Kenya signed a $736 million deal with Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. for the construction of three power transmission lines, as announced by Energy Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.
The agreement allows Adani Energy to finance, build, operate, and maintain these transmission lines for a period of 30 years, aiming to boost the country’s electricity infrastructure and reliability.
These projects are expected to significantly enhance power transmission capacity across Kenya, supporting industrial growth and improving access to electricity for households.
The investment comes at a crucial time as Kenya has been experiencing frequent power outages, making stable power access a key priority for the government.
The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company is also negotiating with a consortium including Africa50 and Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd. to develop two additional power lines.
The project will improve regional integration and economic development by ensuring more stable and reliable electricity supply across the country.
In a separate development, Adani’s proposal for a 30-year concession to operate Kenya’s largest airport has been temporarily blocked by the courts following protests and legal challenges over transparency and governance concerns.
