On a list of the richest persons in the nation, Mukesh Ambani has surpassed Gautam Adani to take the top spot as the richest Indian. The list utilizes August 30 as its base date and includes a total of 1,319 people from 138 cities.
According to the 360 ONE Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2023, Ambani, the 66-year-old chairman of the diverse Reliance Industries, saw his wealth increase by 2% to Rs 8.08 lakh crore, while Adani’s fortune declined by 57% to Rs 4.74 lakh crore.
Hurun’s managing director and principal researcher, Anas Rahman Junaid, ascribed the fall in Adani’s fortune to the January-released Hindenburg study.
With a 36% increase in wealth to Rs 2.78 lakh crore, Cyrus Poonawalla of vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of India, based in Pune, has maintained his ranking as the third-richest Indian, while Shiv Nadar of HCL Technologies has maintained his ranking as the fourth-richest with a 23% increase to Rs 2.28 lakh crore.
Most of the people in the top 10 improved their positions, including Gopichand Hinduja, who is now placed fifth, Dilip Shanghvi, L N Mittal, Kumar Mangalam, and Niraj Bajaj, who are all in the top ten.
Radhakishan Damani, the CEO of D-Mart, had an 18% reduction in his net worth to Rs 1.43 lakh crore, dropping him three spots to become the eighth richest Indian.
The richest self-made Indian woman now belongs to Zoho’s Radha Vembu, surpassing Falguni Nayar, while Zepto’s Kaivalya Vohra is the youngest person on the list.
Mahendra Ratilal Mehta, of the Precision Wires India company, made his debut on the list at the age of 94.
India boasts 259 billionaires, up 4.4 times in 12 years, or two new billionaires every three weeks over the course of the past year, according to Hurun.
For the first time, Bengaluru (100), New Delhi (199), and Mumbai (328) round up the top three spots on the India Rich List. Tiruppur also made its debut among the top 20 cities with the highest number of participants.
With a net worth of Rs 3,000 crore, industry veteran Manish Kejriwal of Kedaara Capital is the first member of the private equity industry to make it onto the list of richest Indians.
