HDFC Bank Recommends Atanu Chakraborty's Re-appointment as Chairman; Awaits RBI Approval

HDFC Bank’s board recommends the re-appointment of Atanu Chakraborty as part-time non-executive chairman and independent director, subject to approval.

The proposal is for a second term of three years, from May 5, 2024, to May 4, 2027, and is currently awaiting approval from the Reserve Bank of India.

Atanu Chakraborty, a retired 1985 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, served as the Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs until April 2020.

Chakraborty, currently holding the position of Part-Time Non-Executive Chairman and Independent Director, has a background in Finance & Economic Policy, Infrastructure, and Petroleum & Natural Gas.

In the Union Government, he served as Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance-Department of Economic Affairs during FY 2019-20.

Chakraborty handled financial stability, currency issues, and managed fund flows with multilateral and bilateral financial institutions.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, a Diploma in Business Finance, and an MBA from the University of Hull, UK.
