TCS witnesses mass female attrition as work from home ends

14 Jun 2023 , 11:13 AM

Tata Consultancy Services is currently facing an unexpected issue as the company has resumed work from the office. The company no longer permits employees to work from home, three years after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world.

However, many new female employees have not welcomed the move by the IT giant and have been resigning from their jobs recently.

TCS is well-known for providing numerous job opportunities to women, as it values gender diversity in the workplace. According to the company, one of the factors contributing to the rapid resignation of female employees is TCS’ decision to end work from home (WFH).

Milind Lakkad, the Head of Human Resources at TCS, stated that an increase in resignations among female employees was observed following the company’s decision to discontinue work-from-home arrangements. Lakkad highlighted that while there could be other contributing factors, this was identified as the primary reason. He emphasized that the resignations were not driven by discriminatory practices.

Generally, at TCS, the women’s attrition rate was lower than men, however, following the new policy, women’s resignation is higher than men.

TCS, with a workforce of over 600,000 employees, has a female workforce of about 35%. In the fiscal year 2023, the company managed to retain 38.1% of its female employees. Notably, women held approximately 75% of the top positions within the organization. It is worth mentioning that TCS experienced a workforce attrition rate exceeding 20% in the previous fiscal year.
